Staging the play in India has been a journey of blood, sweat, and tears. I first saw the Vagina Monologues in Atlanta in Like most of the audience, I was blown away.
As I pondered this blog and how to approach it there were several angles I could have approached it from. I could share my treacherous story of the actual abuse beginning with the emotional abuse, mental abuse and all the way up to the actual physical abuse. I could have discussed how I got out. How I devised a five-year plan and then was given the gift of freedom after two years consisting of a lot of financial plotting and planning.
Politically correct feminists want Valentine's Day to become V-Day [link], standing for Vagina, Violence committed by men against women and Victory. Rather than taking 24 hours to celebrate romantic love, women are admonished to ponder rape and domestic violence. SinceV-Day events have been sponsored on university campuses across America.
Respecting and promoting the principles of international women's and children's human rights, Women's Safe House is improving the position of women and children victims of domestic violence. Through the provision of comprehensive support of women and children, improving the legal framework and promoting the rights of women to live without violence. WSH is promoting the mechanisms of protection of women's right and empowering women to get out of situation of violence.
We all deserve to be ourselves, stand up for what we believe in, and voice our opinions; each and everyone one of us. Doors open at 7pm and performances will take place at pm. This year the monologues will have 18 presenters, all of which play vital parts.
Every year there are hundreds of productions around the world which take place during the January - March period as part of a global campaign aimed at ending violence and abuse against women and girls. It is called the 'V - Day Campaign' and over the last decade it has raised many millions of pounds for charities which help women fleeing domestic abuse, support rape victims, or offer crisis counselling and other such services to women. The script is based on interviews with many women of different ages, ethnicities and backgrounds which the author Eve Ensler conducted over the course of many years. These women talked frankly to her about their experiences of love, sex, childbirth and abuse, about being mothers and daughters, about being victims of sexual violence.
Today, through performances, programming, and the One Billion Rising campaignEnsler and V-Day continue to widen their reach, deepen their impact in local communities, and include diverse, immensely talented cast-members in performances of The Vagina Monologues. After Ensler concluded her solo run of The Vagina Monologuesthe play switched format to include three actors. The safe house provides shelter, education, and alternative rite of passage ceremonies to girls, and staff there work with the community to alert them to the effects of early child marriage, FGM, and a lack of education for girls.
The Vagina Monologues is performed annually to bring attention to V-Day in thousands of cities and colleges worldwide. The performances generally benefit rape crisis centers and similar resource centers for women. The Vagina Monologues were also performed in four Muslim countries deemed to be liberal enough to hold the performances. They were TurkeyEgyptIndonesia and Pakistan.
